Plastic Optical Fiber
ESKA is the trade name of Mitsubishi Rayon's Plastic Optical Fiber (POF).
Structure of ESKA
POF ESKA is of concentric double-layer structure consisting of a core of high purity PMMA and a thin clad of special fluoropolymer. Since the refractive index of clad is lower than that of core, the light coming in from one end goes though the core with total reflection at the core-clad interface and goes out from the other end.
Features of ESKA
» Cost effectiveness » Ease of handling (ESKA is Light weight and Flexible) » Safety (ESKA transmits only visible ray)
Applications of ESKA
While there are a lot of existing and/or potential applications of POF, Mitsubishi Rayon specially focuses on the following applications:
» Digital home appliance interfaces » Home networks » Car networks » Lighting
